Read what they're saying about From the Porch Swing – memories of our grandparents!
Glenda Barrett: "I wanted you to know what a fantastic job you did with your book. I received my copy and it was thick and filled with good reading. You did a nice job and I was glad to be a part of it."
Claudia Clinton: "I gave my sister FROM THE PORCH SWING while we were on a family trip over the weekend. You would have enjoyed standing with me outside the hotel room door and listening as Sister and our cousin Doris (both 1947 boomer babies) shared laughs from the book. I could hear Sue reading, then laughter, and Doris saying 'Oh, Susie! I remember. . .' Since Doris later asked me to buy 2 books for her, I'd say the book went over great with those 2 avid readers!"
Sheryl Nelms: "Thanks for another beautiful book."
Madonna Dries Christensen: "I read this book to my husband on a recent road trip to VA. The stories and poems are wonderful. We laughed at some, and there was one that I could not finish reading aloud; it was too sad. I'm pleased to have my story in this fine collection."
Linda Lyons: "What a thrill to receive the book. I am honored to be included among such fine writing."
Sharon Fish Mooney: "Thought you'd like to know I read my "Memorial Service" poem from the PORCH SWING last Thursday at the poetry reading (I do need to order some!) - had a letter today from a pastor who attended the reading; he has a funeral for a church member this Sat. and asked if he could read the poem for the service. The woman had had Alzheimers for 13 years. Thanks for publishing it and for the book copy."
Roxanne Hoffman: I just got my contributor's copy! The book design is excellent and the stories and poems are wonderful. I'm so glad to be a part of this project.
MaryEllen Letarte: "Thanks for a job well done! I hope to see, and be a part of, more of your work. Best to you, and to all the editors at Silver Boomers."
Anne R. Allen: "My poem WHY GRANDMA BOUGHT THAT CAR is in FROM THE PORCH SWING."
Judy Brand: "Just a note to say that the books arrived safely. I have enjoyed reading the heart warming stories and poems. I feel the spirit of my grandparents as I read the book. Thank you for making my poem a part of this wonderful anthology."
Glenda Barrett: "I wanted you to know that I received my book and was really impressed by the quality and quantity of work in it. It was very well done! Thanks for such professional work!"
Renie Szilak Burghardt: I received my contributor's copy of "From the Porch Swing: Memories of Our Grandparents, " today. Yay! The book is beautiful, and I have 2 stories in it. I can't wait to read all the stories! "From the Porch Swing" can be ordered from Silver Boomer Books, or purchased in book stores. Y'all will love this book!
Glenn Dromgoole, syndicated book reviewer: If you have fond memories of your own grandparents, you will no doubt spend some time thinking about them after reading a few of the poems and essays in "From the Porch Swing." You may wish, as I did, that you had contributed to this wonderful collection.
Some stories will make you laugh. Others might bring a tear or two. The 107 contributors from all over the U.S. as well as Canada, South Africa, Hungary and England cover a wide range of emotions and traditions as they discuss their grandparents and other elders, or in some cases their grandchildren.
Rollins, the Abilene judge who designs and produces the Silver Boomer Books, said this volume at 319 pages is about a third larger than the previous anthologies. Once again, she includes the "crawl line," a continuous string of quotations running across the bottom of each page.
The "crawl line" quotations make for good reading in addition to the longer pieces in the book.
"When my grandfather didn't want me to bother something he'd say 'Don't monkey with that!' Sometimes I touched things just to hear him say that funny sentence," writes Becky Haigler.
Tess Almendarez Lojacono: "I just received my copy of From The Porch Swing. What a beautiful presentation of memory and inspiration! I am honored to be included in the anthology. I would like to purchase an additional copy of the book. How shall I proceed?"
Joanne Faries: "Thank you! Looks great and lots of fun reads inside (modestly, I include my poems)."
Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy: "just received my contributor's copy of 'From The Porch Swing: Memories of Our Grandparents' and it looks awesome! I can hardly wait to read all the stories and poems -maybe sitting out on my front porch swing!
Madonna Dries Christensen: "New anthology on the market, published by Silver Boomer Books, stories about grandparents, includes mine about my grandmother Guertin."
Janet McCann: I just got my FROM THE PORCH SWING and I love it--lots of wonderfully concrete, evocative memories of grandparents and of growing up with them. My favorites are by Sheryl Nelms and Bruce Lader, but I like them all.
Kimberly Connery Hill: "Looking for a great read? How about "From the Porch Swing - memories of our grandparents" available at Barnes and Noble (or through me), featuring a story I wrote about my grandmother. I will be reading some of the stories to the kids around the campfire."
Chris Glasgow: "It's such a relaxing book, it just takes you back. Each piece, you may catch just one tidbit reminding you of your own grandparents. It's the kind of book you want to get in a porch swing and read."
Curtis C. Chen: Received in the mail today: my contributor's copy, payment, and publishing contract for "At Long Last, Love," a short story in the anthology From the Porch Swing: memories of our grandparents. (If you look closely, you can see that I was paid the princely sum of ten whole dollars.)
One day, I hope to be prolific and successful enough as a writer that a small thing like this will merit no special celebration. But for now, it's still a novelty. So there you go.
